Hugh Laurie

“Doctor House” was born in 1959 in Oxford in the family of a Scottish doctor and a housewife. Patricia Lori was fond of writing stories and even published in The London Times. The father of the actor, William “Ran” Laurie, was a strong professional, but still most of his life was into sports, academic rowing to be exact. He was a member of one of the oldest rowing clubs in the world – the Cambridge “Linder”. The team of William Laurie won in many competitions, but the most famous was winning a gold medal at the 1948 Olympic Games in London.

The sports career of the father greatly influenced the young Hugh Laurie – he too was engaged in rowing and had some success. For example, in 1977 he won the championship of Great Britain among juniors.
